Bigbury Revealed

Monday 27th May 2013, 10am – 4pm

An event at Bigbury Camp, near Canterbury, an Iron Age Hill Fort and Scheduled Ancient Monument, thought to be the site of Caesar’s first battle during his invasion in 54BC.

Living history display; people dressed in costumes, with tents and demonstrations of activities of the period. Talks & guided walks around the earthworks by local archaeologists and nature conservationists. Family activities provided by the Roman Museum, as part of their Roman Week; Roman coin bash, grinding grain with a quernstone, mini digs in a container. Demonstrations of geophysics equipment and a photographic display of Bigbury finds.

Tuesday 28th May – Saturday 1st June

Various walks, talks, workshops, family activities all around the Blean Woodlands.

The Fete of the Blean

Sunday 2nd June 2013, 10am – 4pm

Blean Woodland Festival – Canterbury Academy (off Rheims Way)
An extravaganza of outdoor activities and indoor conference to round off the week, share and celebrate the achievements of the Blean HLF Project over the past 5 years.

This event will be a mix of outdoor festival, with a wide variety of demonstrations, family activities, displays, local food, drink, dancing and music and a series of indoor talks to cover the main elements of the KWT Blean project and the work of our partners.
